Description:
This accessory connector installs into either Alinco DR-X38 or TYT TH-9000 radios (any band) to provide an accessory jack to allow connection of modems, sound cards, cables or other interfaces. These radios already have a place machined into the heatsink to install the connector. A sticker is installed at the factory to cover the hole. The radio's circuit board has a socket that the cable plugs into - no soldering required! After taking the cover off, the AC-25 can be installed in minutes with a phillips screwdriver, and 3/16" nut driver.

The connector, along with its mounting hardware, accommodates things like our Alinco-6 Adapter (available separately). When purchased and additionally installed - the Alinco-6 Adapter allows an inexpensive Mini-DIN-6 male-to-male cable (like our DRAC-12) to be used between the radio and sound card.

Installation and option:
Read the directions and important notes below at least once before actually installing the option connector. You have the option to attach the DB9 connector using the common Phillips head screws if you don't want to use the jack screws for some reason. Flat washers are provided for this installation type. Using jack screws is the most common and allows cables and adapters to be securely attached.

Unlike other similar products offered by our competitors, this one is supplied with the proper mounting hardware. This includes two SAE & Metric jack screws, two SAE & Metric common Phillips head screws, and two split (lock) & two flat washers to properly install the DB9 connector and allow a cable or other equipment to be secured to the radio so what's attached doesn't fall off.

Important:
Depending on the vintage of your radio - you will use either standard SAE or Metric hardware for installation. Both types are provided with your purchase. Usually - Alinco and Yaesu radios are Metric, while TYT radios are SAE - but not always.

Preparation:
Mounting the DB9 connector with jack screws requires either M2.5 X 8mm or 4-40 SAE steel Phillips head screws (2) to be temporarily installed and removed. The hardware is separated by type and each are provided in bags marked with the type. The finer pitched threads are Metric - the wider pitched are SAE. Carefully - try each type to find the correct ones needed for your radio. A drop of thin oil or WD-40 or similar on the threads can be beneficial. This process is required to identify the type and clean out any paint or debris from the pre-machined holes in the radios heatsink - so the threaded shaft of the jack screws don't bind and twist off - when they are installed.

Important: Mount the DB9 by threading the wires through the heatsink from the back side to the inside. The DB9 only mounts correctly one way - the cut out is keyed to the shape of the connector. If in doubt - look at the photos above for the correct orientation.

Then - install the appropriate jack screws with only the split washers securing the DB9 to the radio's heatsink. Do not over-tighten (they are made of brass and will break off if over torqued). The brass jack screws are Metric - The silver jack screws are SAE. Again - You have the option to attach the DB9 connector using the common Phillips head screws if you don't want to use the jack screws for some reason. Flat washers are provided for this installation type.

Important: When routing the wiring, follow the method shown in the photo. DO NOT route the wires over top of the PA transistor - fold any extra length into the shielded compartment as shown.

Which DRA is best for these radios?:
The DRA-36 is a good choice for these radios for digital or analog operation when paired with the Alinco-6 Adapter and DRAC-12 Cable.

The AC-25 is available assembled and ready to install - with all necessary hardware.
